Continuing with the current trend of action flicks in Bollywood, yet another action film has released this week. ‘Tezz’ starring Ajay Devgan, Anil Kapoor and directed by comedy king Priyadarshan has finally hit the screens and let’s see how it fares.
Story:
Ajay Devgan who is an illegal immigrant, marries a British citizen Kangana Ranaut and settles down in London. He runs his own business along with his Indian friends. Unfortunately he gets caught by the police and is found guilty. The court orders him to be deported back to India, away from his family making his life a living hell. A frustrated and dejected Ajay Devgan in order to seek revenge against the system, plans to bomb a London train. He takes the help of his Asian friends Zayed Khan and Sameera Reddy to carry out his mission. On the other hand, Anil Kapoor, a retired detective agent is appointed specially for this task of covering the operation and saving everyone’s life. Whether Ajay succeeds in taking his revenge and blows up the train? Whether Anil Kapoor stops Ajay form completing his mission? forms the rest of the story?
Plus Points:
Ajay Devgan does a decent job in the role of a train bomber. He plays the character with ease and lot of emotion. The man to watch out in the movie is Anil Kapoor who excels in his role. It’s a treat watching Anil Kapoor on screen. The actor, who is in his 50’s, performs all the action stunts with flourish. He looks awesome in the role of a British detective. Everything from his attire to his dialogues and screen presence is fantastic. Action sequences which are choreographed by Hollywood technicians will give you high octane energy. Though there are ample thrilling moments in the movie, two chase sequences are simply outstanding – the first involving Sameera and the second featuring Zayed. Hand to Hand fist fights between Anil and Ajay are worth aprreciation. The only romantic song in the movie “Tera Bina’ is a lovely track shows Ajay’s and Kangana’s life in the flashback. Always known for his comedies Priyadarshan does a good job in executing a well sketched out subject. Boman Irani is fantastic as the railways chief and performs his role to the best of his capabilities.
Minus Points:
Those of you who would go to this movie thinking you would get to see high speed train sequences as shown in the trailers are misguided. Train sequences in the movie are very less as the movie is based on the cat and mouse game between the lead stars. Train sequences are poorly shot and look very unconvincing. The VFX work is just very normal. There are many logical errors for example, we never get to see how Ajay Devgan, who is deported to India gets back into the country after four years, and as to how the bombers enter the London railway station with high explosives with huge security cover. Mallika sherawat’ song doesn’t justify its presence. Actors like Mohan Lal, Zayed Khan, Sameera reddy appear only for few scenes. Movie gets highly predictable most of the time and you would easily know what’s going to happen in the coming scenes.
Technical Aspects:
Cinematography is very good especially in the action sequences. Tezz gives you the look and feel of a Hollywood action film. There are no hi-funda dialogues in the movie. Action sequences need a special mention as they are well sketched out and are sleek. Director Priyadarshan has made a decent effort in making the film crisp and tight all through the two hours of its run time. Screen play of the movie is apt. Editing of the movie is ok but leaves you with certain doubts in the chase and action sequences. Costumes and actor’s characterization are apt. Music has very less scope in this thriller film and there is only one track which is hummable.
Verdict:
Tezz, is a decent action thriller which will not disappoint you. People who are not used to Hollywood flicks will thoroughly be entertained. On the flip side, stop looking at some of the logical errors in the movie and you will be decently entertained. Go watch it if you are fed up watching the ongoing regular Masala films.
