Jannat 2 is the sequel to the 2008 film Jannat. The movie has Emraan Hashmi, Randeep Hooda and Eesha Gupta in the lead roles. The movie has been directed by Kunal Deshmukh and Mahesh Bhatt produced the film along with Mukesh Bhatt. The movie has opened across the world today, so let us see how it is.
Jannat 2′s basic story line is similar to the Hollywood flick ‘Lord of War’. Sonu Dilli KKC (Emraan Hashmi) is a small time gunrunner. He supplies weapons to any and everyone who can pay and this brings him into conflict with ACP Pratap Raghuvanshi (Randeep Hooda). Unexpectedly, Sonu comes across a public service loving Dr.Jhanvi (Eesha Gupta) and falls in love with her. But when Jhanvi comes to know about Sonu’s criminal background, she keeps her distance. In order to win Jhanvi’s heart and redeem his life, Sonu decides to team up with ACP Pratap and he becomes an undercover operative.
Life becomes extremely tough for Sonu as the gangsters start suspecting him after a couple of deals are busted by the cops. His love life takes a beating as Jhanvi starts suspecting his motives. There is only one way out for Sonu. What is it? What will he do to solve his problems and win back the love of Jhanvi? That forms the story.
Plus Points :
Without a doubt, this movie belongs to Randeep Hooda. He delivers a highly commendable performance and he just blazes the screen with his intensity. He shows great variations as a frustrated and angry cop with a heart.
Emraan Hashmi is ok in the movie but this performance is not his best. He has performed well in the chase sequences and in the confrontation scenes with Randeep though. Eesha Gupta is present only to provide visual relief and this, she does with great earnest. She looks hot and her lovemaking scenes with Emraan have been shot well.
The movie has a very fast pace and this is a major asset. Except for a few instances in the second half, there are no boring moments in the film. The portrayal of the gun trade and the overall setting of the movie is quite mature.
Background score and music are major assets for the movie
Minus Points :
The story and the twists are very predictable and the film is saved only by its fast narration. The romantic track between Emraan and Eesha lacks chemistry.Eesha Gupta looks good but she just cannot act.
The movie’s pace becomes slightly slow in the starting stages of the second half and the placement of the songs is not too good.
The screenplay has some errors in the second half and the climax is a little too melodramatic. And the way Eesha reacts and packs her bags when Randeep discloses the shocking information to her is just not convincing.
Technical Aspects :
Pritam has scored the music and his work is commendable. The background score is a major asset and lends weight during key moments. Cinematography is excellent and the visuals are realistic and intense. Editing is neat.
Dialogues are ok in places and there are instances of genuinely good humour. Songs have been shot aesthetically.
Jannat 2 is a gritty crime saga that is fast paced and entertaining. The predictable story and the mundane twists are disappointing. But the film is redeemed by Randeep Hooda’s excellent performance and Eesha Gupta’s glamour. A rousing background score and good cinematography are other assets. Jannat 2 is an entertaining flick to catch this weekend.
