Anupam Kher adopts a poor family
Anupam Kher has adopted a Kashmiri Pandit family in the remote village of Zadroo, Pulwama, in South Kashmir. They were one of the few Pandits who chose to stay in the area after the others fled when military action started in 1989.
Ashok Kumar Raina works as a daily labourer. It was a struggle to feed the family of five, including three daughters. “We were dependant on relatives in Jammu and Delhi but it wasn’t enough. I stayed back as I had no options. My neighbours and Muslim friends have helped me,” said Raina. Anupam has promised to take care of the marriage expenses of his eldest daughter and support the family for their daily expenses.
